Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific acupuncture points along the
skin of the body involving various methods such as penetration by thin needles
or the application of heat, pressure, or laser light. Traditional acupuncture
involves needle insertion, moxibustion, and cupping therapy. It is a form of
complementary and alternative medicine and a key component of traditional
Chinese medicine.
Duties and Responsibilities: An acupuncturist is a complementary health
practitioner who takes a holistic approach to the maintenance of health and the
management of disease, with a focus on improving overall well being.
Salary: A licensed acupuncturist after one year of school can make around
$45,000 or more in year. After five years of practice an acupuncturist can make
around $100,000 or more.
Education: Most acupuncture and TCM training programs require students to
have a bachelor's degree. While the degree can be in any subject, classes in
physiology, anatomy, biology and psychology will help prepare aspiring
acupuncturists for successful careers. A bachelor's degree in a health care or
alternative medicine related subject is especially helpful for a career as an
acupuncturist.
I would not like to be an acupuncturist because I do not like sticking
needle's inside people.
